Crafting soothing lip care

So, what is Calendula-Centric?
  Calendula
The heart of Botanybabe is our Calendula‑Centric approach — built on whole flowers grown on our small family farm in the fresh, nutrient‑rich coastal air of Northern California.
We infuse these resin‑rich calendula blossoms directly into organic extra‑virgin olive oil and jojoba oil. Because we use the whole flower, not isolated extracts, our nourishing infusion captures the full spectrum of everything beneficial the plant offers, working together the way nature intended.
Calendula has been treasured in skincare traditions for thousands of years for its gentle, comforting qualities. In topical care, it soothes dry or delicate skin, supports the skin’s natural renewal process, and sustains a soft, healthy‑looking appearance.
By choosing whole flowers instead of extracts, Botanybabe delivers calendula’s full natural benefits to sensitive lips in every balm — keeping them comfortable, smooth, supple, and beautifully cared for.
100% Plant-Based Tubes!
Botanybabe sources tubes that are 100% plant-based and formulated without petroleum BPA, phthalates, heavy metals, micro-plastics, 0r toxins.
These tubes are injection-molded using plant cellulose sourced from agricultural by-products, including rice, potatoes, and sugarcane. Instead of being burned or discarded, this plant material is repurposed into functional, low impact packaging.
Botanybabe supports innovation and use of sustainable plant-based packaging – materials that perform like plastic while reducing reliance on fossil-fuel-derived inputs. Choosing these tubes is one of many steps we take toward more thoughtful, lower-impact packaging solutions.
Plastic is forever, plant-based tubes are not.
We're looking out for you, and our planet.
100% plant-based tubes? Tell me more! Does this mean I can just throw them in my compost?
100% plant-based tubes are petroleum, phthalate, BPA, plastic/micro-plastic, heavy metal, and toxin-free.
This means no chemicals or micro-plastics sloughing into the balm, your body, or the environment.
The tubes Botanybabe sources are made of renewable, plant-derived cellulose. The cellulose material is concentrated into a durable form that performs like a traditional lip balm tube.
Cellulose-based materials are designed to biodegrade over time through natural biological processes, rather than persist indefinitely like conventional petroleum-based plastics. Typically, overtime, cellulose breaks down into simple sugars with the assistance of enzymes produces by fungi, bacteria, and protozoans, and favorable environmental conditions.
Plant-based tubes are a newer and evolving packaging option and cost more per unit than plastic. Despite the additional cost, Botanybabe chooses to support sustainable innovation in plant-based packaging as part of our commitment to reducing reliance on fossil-fuel-derived materials. It's just one positive investment toward a cleaner future.
Botanybabe is also actively exploring durable, plant-based label materials that withstand regular handling. We will continue to upgrade packaging components as improved solutions become available.
At this time, 100% plant-based tubes are not widely accepted by municipal recycling or commercial composting facilities.
The tubes are engineered to remain stable during normal product use and storage. When empty, please dispose of the tube in accordance with local waste guidelines.
Botanybabe uses organic, extra virgin olive oil. Why?
Botanybabe uses organic, extra-virgin olive oil - and for good reason. Extra-virgin olive oil is the highest grade of olive oil, obtained through mechanical extraction without the use of chemical solvents. It's rich lipid profile makes it especially well-suited for botanical infusions, allowing it to dissolve and carry calendula's naturally occurring, oil-soluble plant compounds with remarkable efficiency.
Olive oil has been used in personal care for centuries and is valued in topical formulations for its conditioning qualities. On the lips, it helps support softens, comfort, and a smooth, healthy-looking appearance.
From a sustainability standpoint, olive oil is considered a low-impact crop. Olive trees are long-living perennials that absorb and store carbon over their lifespan, and olive orchards typically require fewer resources than many annual oil crops. Many groves are rain-fed, which helps reduce overall water use.
Botanybabe uses organic beeswax - but you'll notice it's not our first ingredient like many nationally recognized brands. Why?
Botanybabe uses organic beeswax — but you’ll notice it’s not our first ingredient like many nationally recognized brands. Why?
A formula that is more wax than oil creates a heavy layer that sits on top of your lips. It feels protective at first, but as soon as it rubs off, your lips feel dry again, leading to serial reapplication.
Botanybabe flips that script.
We start with calendula‑infused plant oils — the ingredients that actually hydrate, soften, and condition. Then we add beeswax in the right amount: enough to seal in moisture, never so much that it blocks absorption or feels waxy. The result is long‑lasting comfort, silky smooth glide, and a balm that never feels heavy.
Why beeswax?
Botanybabe is not a vegan product, and we’ve never claimed to be. We choose organic beeswax because it is one of the most skin‑compatible, breathable, and environmentally responsible waxes available. Beeswax is natural, biodegradable, renewable, and requires no harsh chemical processing to become usable in skincare.
What about the ethics?
No wax is without impact. Many plant‑based waxes come from stress‑grown monocultures, rely on intensive labor conditions abroad, or require chemical solvents during rendering. Beeswax, when sourced responsibly, avoids many of these issues.
We purchase organic, cruelty‑free beeswax — a choice that aligns with beekeeping practices designed to prioritize hive health. Ethical beekeepers do not harm their colonies — it would be self‑defeating. Healthy bees produce excess wax naturally, and responsible beekeepers harvest only what the colony can spare. Supporting these beekeepers helps maintain strong pollinator populations, which are essential for thriving ecosystems and plant diversity.
For Botanybabe, choosing organic beeswax is a balance of skin performance, environmental responsibility, and ethical sourcing. It allows us to create a high‑quality balm without the ecological and chemical impacts associated with many alternative waxes — all while supporting the pollinators that make our botanical world possible.
Why does Botanybabe use Vitamin E?
Natural Vitamin E is derived from plant oils and helps condition lips and supports a smooth, comfortable feel. Vitamin E also helps maintain the freshness of our botanical oils, supporting product stability and consistency over time.
Can Botanybabe lip balms shield lips from irritation and dryness caused by outdoor exposure?
All Botanybabe lip balms are formulated to provide a comfortable, moisture-sealing layer on the lips. Our calendula-infused, botanical oils and beeswax together form unique balms that support lasting comfort and smoothness when lips are exposed to everyday outdoor conditions. Botanybabe lip balms reduce moisture loss and keep lips feeling soft and conditioned in dry, windy, or cold environments.
Botanybabe Calendula Sport with Sheer Mineral Zinc Oxide provides an additional lightweight, mineral-based barrier that shields lips from dryness and irritation caused by more intense outdoor sporting exposures. Calendula Sport is sheer, comfortable, and helps maintain healthy looking and feeling lips.
I stocked up! Should I refrigerate new and unused balms not yet opened?
Any balms that you're not ready to open are best stored in the refrigerator to maintain their maximum freshness. Worry not though, as all Botanybabe lip balms include natural Vitamin E to preserve freshness and shelf life at ambient temperatures.
It's like having a chai latte on my lips! Yummy! Plus, it has calendula which heals and protects my wind burned lips.
